Plan skills, books, and useful practice

Use the five skill-book bands, the early Life and Living schedule, and useful practice projects to turn safe hours into progress.

Match the book to the levels you are earning

A skill book multiplies XP earned afterward; reading does not instantly grant a level. The band refers to the levels being earned. At Carpentry 0, volume I helps you earn levels 1 and 2. Once level 2 is complete and you are working toward 3, use volume II.

  • Read the relevant volume before a planned practice session. Partial reading gives a partial benefit, and reading progress is retained.
  • Check the title and skill: a Cooking book does not boost Carpentry.
  • The standard multiplier table has exceptions. PZwiki lists lower multipliers for Aiming books.

Life and Living: the first nine world days

Tune a powered television to Life and Living, channel 203, and activate the tune-in control. Stay in the room for the show. The times below are in-game clock times; server age matters, not how recently your character joined.

*The documented opening Cooking show can still be caught after the usual 09:00 start. Day 1 also lists a midnight Fishing broadcast before that start. Sandbox start dates shift calendar dates.

The referenced 42.11-era schedule documents TV skill XP stopping around level 3, with possible final-tick overflow. It is not a way to maximize a skill. Recipes can still be learned. Electricity, hearing the program, and version-specific rules matter.

Use recordings without missing the basics

Retail VHS versions of skill programs provide another learning route. ValuTech and Premium Technologies televisions can play VHS; antique televisions cannot. Keep useful tapes beside your books and record what you have watched.

Set the volume only as high as you need, keep the approach clear, and read the matching book before the session when possible. A broadcast is a bonus after water, bleeding, and shelter have been handled.

Turn the multiplier into useful work

Inspect the recipe or part interaction before dismantling something essential. Keep your only transport and communication equipment working. In co-op, share the book collection and assign specialist projects rather than duplicating the same material expense.
